Morris County Juvenile Detention Officer Admits Assault of Minor

Morris County NJ Juvenile Assault AttorneysA Newark New Jersey woman recently pleaded guilty to charges for simple assault that stemmed from a violent altercation at the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center in Morris Township, where the woman worked as a corrections officer.

The suspect, a 32-year-old Newark resident, had been employed as a juvenile detention officer for more than a decade. According to Morris County NJ prosecutors, the suspect committed the violent crime at the Morris Township juvenile detention facility.

The suspect was arrested and charged after she reportedly attacked a juvenile victim who was in custody at the detention center. The suspect allegedly punched and kicked the victim in what law enforcement later called a use of excessive force. When the juvenile victim was assaulted, she reportedly had handcuffs on her and was pinned to the floor.

The assault happened in November 2016, but the case was only just resolved when the suspect reached a plea deal with the Morris County Prosecutor s Office. The suspect agreed to plead guilty to simple assault, which is classified as a disorderly persons offenses; in exchange, prosecutors agreed to recommend that the suspect be sentenced to probation, not jail time.

The suspect has resigned from her position as a corrections officer at the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center.

Meanwhile, the minor victim has reportedly recovered from the injuries she sustained in the attack. Authorities have not indicated why the victim was in the juvenile detention facility in the first place.
