According to a Vineland Police Department press release, on the afternoon of Thursday, December 2, 2021, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of East Wood Street in Vineland on the report of a possible shooting. Upon the arrival, officers were advised by several witnesses that the teen victim was brought to the Inspira Medical Center for treatment. At the medical center, it was determined that the victim has sustained a gun shot wound to the neck. He was ultimately transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ for further treatment. He is still listed in critical condition.
Officers discovered evidence of a shooting at the scene and spoke to witnesses, but the investigation is still ongoing.
Two juvenile males are in custody and charges of Attempted Murder and related weapons offenses have been filed. The identities of the juveniles will remain confidential.
Despite the fact that the shooting is alleged to have happened in Vineland, the juvenile matters will be prosecuted in the counties in which the juveniles reside. (If they reside in different counties or upon motion of the State, the matters may be prosecuted in the county in which the incident transpired.) Moreover, the matters will be handled in Family Court, unless the State files a motion to have the juveniles waived up to adult court.
