Newark law enforcement recently arrested a minor on weapons offense charges.
The juvenile suspect is 16 years old and resides in Newark, New Jersey. According to authorities, the suspect was walking near the intersection of Quitman Street and West Kinney Street and flashing a handgun.
A passerby on the street reportedly noticed the suspect holding the firearm and dialed 911 to alert the Newark Police Department about the potentially dangerous situation. Newark NJ cops were subsequently dispatched to the area to investigate.
When Newark officers arrived at the scene, they located the juvenile suspect and detained him. Police then searched the underage suspect and allegedly found him with a .40-caliber handgun. The handgun was allegedly loaded with ammunition.
Since police reportedly discovered the suspect with the handgun, police placed the juvenile suspect under arrest and charged him with weapons crimes. It is unclear at this time if the suspect has been charged as a juvenile or if he has been charged as an adult.
That was not the only arrest made that day in Newark, New Jersey. Earlier in the afternoon, Newark patrol cops arrested a 20-year-old adult male who was allegedly involved in a violent shooting on the 100 block of Morton Street in Newark, NJ.
