Police Arrest Minor Accused of Shooting Paterson NJ Police Officer

Passaic County NJ Juvenile LawyerPaterson New Jersey police officers recently arrested a teenager who has been accused of shooting a Paterson cop.

The violent shooting happened during the early morning hours. According to law enforcement officials, the 16-year-old suspect attempted to commit a robbery. He allegedly tried to steal from a person walking near the intersection of Carroll Street and Park Street in Paterson, New Jersey.

When a Paterson police officer arrived at the scene, the suspect reportedly used a handgun and tried to shoot the officer. The cop returned the gunfire and reportedly shot the juvenile suspect.

Since the suspect is a minor, authorities have not released a lot of details about him or the police shooting incident. The Passaic County Prosecutor s Office has issued a press release that indicates that the suspect s case is currently being processed and is scheduled to be heard in the Passaic County Superior Court, Family Division.

The juvenile suspect has been charged with juvenile delinquency. Passaic County prosecutors stated that the underage suspect would have faced far more serious criminal charges for armed robbery, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and drug crimes if he was 18 years of age or older.
